Rehras Sahib is the evening prayer of the Sikhs, containing the hymns of four different Gurus: Guru Nanak, Guru Amardas, Guru Ramdas, and Guru Arjan Dev, as recorded in the Guru Granth Sahib. The Benti Chaupai, attributed to Guru Gobind Singh, was later added to this prayer in the late 19th century and was formally approved by the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee.
Each segment of this prayer sheds light on a distinct aspect of God and is often recited after a day's labor when one seeks rejuvenation. Families come together in the evening—post washing up and changing into comfortable attire—to recite this sacred text, replenishing the body and mind. It serves as a conclusion to the day, expressing gratitude to the Almighty for another successful day.
The verses glorify Waheguru and expound on how one's actions contribute to spiritual illumination, leading to mental and soul liberation. In times of physical or financial weakness or when burdened with earthly concerns like sickness or financial struggles, this prayer provides solace.
